Passage Meditation contains Easwaran’s practical instructions for his method of meditation on spiritual texts, or passages. Timeless Wisdom is his personal selection of passages suitable for meditation from all the world’s traditions, in a compact edition.

Here you’ll find flashes of insight from the Hindu Upanishads, prayers of comfort from the Christian saints, psalms from the Old Testament, songs of praise from the Sufis, and deep inspiration from the Buddhist and Taoist traditions. Positive, practical, and uplifting, these passages express the universal ideals of love, steadfastness, and wisdom.

Timeless Wisdom is perfect for immediate inspiration, for concentrated study, and as a sourcebook for passage meditation. This is a book to read again and again, each time drawing more deeply from the well of inspiration within its pages.

“The passages become lifelines, guiding you to the source of wisdom deep within and the guiding you back into daily life . . . This is the secret of meditation: you become what you meditate on.” – Eknath Easwaran

Excerpt from Timeless Wisdom |

The passages in this book . . . show us our original goodness. They remind us that whatever mistakes we may have made in the past, however self-centered our words or behavior might be today, at the center of our personality lies a spark of the divine that can never be extinguished, does not even have to be earned, for it is an essential part of our nature as human beings.

When you and I look into a mirror, we see a familiar face with a distressing tendency to show fatigue or age. But that is not what the mystics see. They look at us – through us, into us – and see something transcendent, luminous, timeless, “the Face behind all faces”:

I look into the mirror and see my own beauty;
I see the truth of the universe revealing itself as me.
I rise in the sky as the morning sun, do not be surprised . . .
I am Light itself, reflected in the heart of everyone.
Fakhruddin Araqi

Please note: These reviews are for Easwaran’s longer anthology, God Makes the Rivers to Flow. When we receive reviews of Timeless Wisdom, we’ll post them on this Web page.

“Powerful, positive, practical, universal in appeal and of great literary beauty, the pieces in the collection remind us that life has a purpose in which each person has a meaningful part; that all creation is one and full of divinity; that every moment is precious; and what gives life meaning is love and human relationships.”
Fellowship in Prayer

“This is an expertly crafted, beautifully presented book containing words of inspiration from some of the greatest literature, religious and spiritual, from around the world . . . 12-Steppers and others who are seeking deeper readings than short quotations will find it useful and inspiring for meditations and stimulating deep reflections.”
Recovery Times

“As an attractive sampler of sacred literature, God Makes the Rivers to Flow would be impressive enough. But these passages were chosen by writer Eknath Easwaran for their transformative power. The book offers instructions for meditating on the passages, which include selections from the Upanishads, the Torah, the Bhagavad Gita, the Bible, and Taoist and Islamic texts. The meanings and rhythms of the selections are calming. Their beauty inevitably emanates from their simplicity.”
