    Blue Mountain Center Strategic Plan

    Message from Christine Easwaran

I am very pleased to introduce this Strategic Plan for the next ten years of the Blue Mountain Center of Meditation (BMCM).

This plan reflects a growing organization aspiring to reach its highest potential. Starting over thirty years ago in a spiritual community in close contact with its founder, Sri Eknath Easwaran, it expanded to publish books and tapes taken from his practical spiritual talks and later to teach his Eight Point Program of passage meditation at retreats and workshops. From this small beginning has developed an enduring legacy of inspired teachings which now reach a worldwide audience.

Our plan shows a renewed commitment to meeting the needs of our close circle of friends – our spiritual family - as well as to expanding this circle of people who can foster the changes in humanity Sri Easwaran believed are needed to make a better world.

Sri Easwaran’s vision of the power of ordinary men and women to transform themselves and transform the world is the heart of the mission of the Blue Mountain Center. The next ten years present a unique opportunity to carry his vision far into the future. With this plan we are embracing that opportunity. New operational practices and a more efficient organizational structure are the first steps in an ambitious expansion of our capacity that will support creative new ways of accomplishing our goals.

“Pass the torch blazing,” Sri Easwaran told us. We are honored to be carrying on his work and we look forward to extending his long reach over geographic distance and down the generations, fulfilling the mission he entrusted to us.

    Christine Easwaran

    Life Trustee

    from Christine Easwaran

To change lives and build a better world by publishing Sri Eknath Easwaran’s timeless words, preserving his legacy, and teaching his Eight Point Program of passage meditation.

In pursuing this vision and mission, the BMCM will always work to:

    • Deliver selections of Sri Easwaran’s direct words to a wide range of audiences.
    • Keep Sri Easwaran’s image as a spiritual teacher appropriately represented to the world.
    • Preserve the records of Sri Easwaran’s words
    • Teach the Eight Point Program through direct group instruction by qualified presenters.
    • Support practitioners of the Eight Point Program around the world.
    • Maintain an efficient and financially sound organization.
    • Nurture a living model of intensive daily practice of the Eight Point Program as established at Ramagiri Ashram by Sri Easwaran.

    Building the Future

    Executive Summary

The Blue Mountain Center of Meditation Strategic Plan (2004–2014) reflects the ongoing commitment of the BMCM to its vision and mission and presents the goals for carrying out this mission over the next ten years, establishing concrete measures for fulfilling them. This next decade comprises a critical phase in the BMCM’s work, during which Sri Easwaran’s first-generation students will pass the torch to a capable and committed next generation. The plan has three main phases:

    • Building capacity for growth through expanding staff and operations, and enhancing efficiency;
    • Expanding outreach to a larger and more diverse group of people; and
    • Managing a smooth transition from the first generation to the next.

This Strategic Plan was developed, approved, and adopted by the BMCM Trustees, who share a lifelong commitment to the practice of Sri Easwaran’s Eight Point Program and to furthering his vision and mission. It is the fruit of an intensive process extending over many months. Several professional management consultants assisted the Trustees in drawing out a wide range of viewpoints for shaping the final plan.

This document is humbly submitted as a plan for establishing the lifework of Sri Eknath Easwaran for future generations. In addition to Life Trustee Christine Easwaran, the Trustees are: Sultana Harvey, Terry Morrison, Robbie Nichols, and Beth Ann O’Connell.
